The Wilson Initiative for Health and Social Equity, Inc. mourns the loss of Katherine Johnson, American Mathematician
Katherine Johnson inspired generations of women and girls to pursue careers in STEM. May her legacy live on. We would like to share a statement from our STEM ambassador, Marion Johnson, “Rest in peace Katherine. I never got a chance to know you in person or to attend your home going service, however, you are my shero. The legacy that you forged allowed me and others to continue the work you started at NASA in the Apollo 11 space program. It also allowed others to know that black women are intelligent and can be counted on in the trenches. I stood on your shoulders, unknowingly, until the movie “Hidden Figures” came out. Thank you for your contributions to the space program and the legacy you left for women.”
