Public Health Sciences Scholarship — Now Accepting Applications Through August 1, 2026

The Institute for Health and Social Equity has extended the application deadline for the Dr. Gloria Addo-Ayensu Public Service (Public Health Sciences)  Scholarship to August 1, 2026.

Public health sciences shape the communities we live in. From epidemiologists tracking outbreaks to social workers supporting families to policy analysts shaping the systems around us, this work touches every corner of daily life. The Institute is opening doors for the students preparing to do it.

About the Scholarship

The Dr. Gloria Addo-Ayensu Public Service ( Public Health Sciences) Scholarship supports students accepted into an accredited program with an explicit health focus, including:

  • Public Health
  • Epidemiology
  • Health Policy
  • Social Work
  • Human Services
  • Public Administration
  • Laboratory Science
  • And related disciplines within local, state, federal, or nonprofit settings

Who Should Apply

We welcome college-bound high school seniors, recent high school graduates, and current undergraduate students. Our scholars attend institutions ranging from community colleges to research universities to historically Black colleges across the Mid-Atlantic and beyond.

What You’ll Need

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above (unofficial transcript accepted)
  • A history of community service
  • A 300-word personal statement
  • Willingness to complete an interview with the selection committee, if selected as a finalist
  • Commitment to maintain a 3.0 GPA or above during college matriculation for continued funding

The application takes approximately 20–30 minutes to complete. You’ll be asked to upload your unofficial transcript, share your community service history, describe your financial need, and respond to a personal statement prompt tailored to the scholarship.

Recognition at the 10th Anniversary Gratitude Gala

Scholarship recipients are honored in person at The Institute’s 10th Anniversary Gratitude Gala on September 12, 2026 at the University of Maryland, College Park. Attendance at the Gala is required to receive your scholarship award. If travel presents a hardship, please contact us at info@institute4equity.org.
