About The Founder
Dr. Sherri Johnson, DNP, RN, FADLN, FAAN
Dr. Sherri Johnson is a nationally recognized nurse leader, strategist, and equity advocate with over 25 years of cross-sector experience spanning healthcare, education, and workforce development. A nurse by practice and a systems thinker by approach, Dr. Johnson founded The Institute for Health and Social Equity to help dismantle persistent barriers that limit opportunity for historically underserved communities.
Her professional journey bridges clinical care, public health leadership, policy, and executive strategy in both nonprofit and corporate arenas. Currently, she serves as the only nurse leader at a publicly traded education technology company, where she leads national initiatives that expand healthcare career pathways through innovation, public-private partnerships, and learner-centered design.
Dr. Johnson is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, a Fellow of the Academy of Diversity Leaders in Nursing, and an Educational Policy Fellow with the Institute for Educational Leadership.
Her work has influenced national workforce strategies, advanced health equity, and supported emerging leaders in nursing, STEM, and public health. Through The Institute, she has facilitated mentorship, awarded scholarships, and led community collaborations aimed at increasing access to high-opportunity careers.
Dr. Johnson believes zip code should never determine destiny—and through her leadership, The Institute continues to create spaces where students and future leaders are seen, supported, and empowered to thrive.
